Homes For Pets (Schertz Humane Society) is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit, adoption-guarantee organization dedicated to rescue and improving the lives of companion animals in the Schertz, Texas area (NE San Antonio). We provide foster care and facilitate adoptions of homeless pets, support the staff and animals in the city shelter, and provide community education about responsible pet ownership. The group is comprised solely of volunteers and its activities are financed by membership dues, fundraisers, and donations.
Our animals are examined by a vet, brought up to date on vaccines, spayed/neutered, treated for any illnesses or parasites, and evaluated for temperament. Dogs are heartworm tested (and treated, if positive) and started on preventative; cats are tested for FeLV/FIV.

Adoption Process
Have you considered that adopting this pet may be a 15 to 18 year commitment? Please be prepared for that commitment, and seriously take this into account, before applying.
Animals have feelings too, and being given up, or abandoned once again, can cause a set back in their behavior and make it all the more difficult to find yet another home. We particularly find this when people adopt a cute puppy, only to return them as a grown dog. Our goal is to place all of our animals in FOREVER homes.
A little about how our adoption process works....We often receive more than one application per pet, as our goal is to find the best match for the pet and the new family. The application is in no way binding, and it helps us ensure that the pet is a good match for your family. Our board members will review the applications and select the best match, usually within a few days. We require a home visit to finalize adoptions for dogs.
