Central Missouri Humane Society

The Central Missouri Humane Society was founded in 1943 to prevent cruelty to and suffering of non-human animals. The CMHS is a private, non profit organization that promotes animal welfare and provides public education concerning the proper care and treatment of animals. Our building serves as an adoption agency for homeless and unwanted dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, mice, rats, ferrets, birds and many more. We are committed to responsible pet ownership and solving the catastrophic problem of pet overpopulation.

Adoption Process

If you see an animal you would like to adopt, please visit the shelter to fill out an application and go through an interview with an adoption counselor. If you are from out of town and coming in is not possible, please download an adoption application from our website. You can then attach it to an e-mail and send it to staff@cmhspets.org or fax it to 573-875-6155. We can do your interview over the phone once we have received your application.
