Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society

Established in 1987, the Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society (CHHS) is a non-profit, no-kill shelter for dogs and cats. Our mission is to: * provide humane care and treatment for all dogs and cats needing adoption * secure safe, permanent homes for all adoptable animals * promote and subsidize spay/neuter programs * advocate for proper care, treatment, and welfare of all animals. As a private shelter, the Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society receives no support from federal, state or local agencies. We rely on income generated from donations, adoptions, fundraising, grants, and public support. These funds make it possible for us to promote and subsidize our spay/neuter and trap/neuter/release programs, as well as expand our educational programs in the community. All support is tax deductible. Through the continued support of the community, we can maintain high adoption rates of the puppies, dogs, kittens and cats in our care.

Adoption Process

The benefits of adopting from the Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society are: * all dogs and cats are current on their vaccinations * all dogs and cats are spayed/neutered prior to adoption * all dogs and cats are implanted with a 24PetWatch microchip for permanent identification * all dogs and cats are protected with the ShelterCare 30-day Gift of insurance * all dogs and cats are provided with a free bag of food and training DVD and booklet provided by Hill's Science Diet * adoption packages include a behavior/personality overview and medical records * the adoption fee continues to provide care and support for other animals needing a home. All potential adopters must complete an adoption application and adoption agreement, as well as provide proof of identification and residency. The cost of adoption for our animals is $75 for dogs and $65 for cats. We also encourage "overnight" stays for potential adopters to ensure the best possible home for all of our animals.
