AFAR/ North County Humane Society
Action For Animals' Rights / North County Humane Society has been serving San Luis Obispo County since 1977. Our Vision is to live in a world where all animals receive compassion, respect, and humane treatment from all people. Initially AFAR / NCHS's main focus was a spay/neuter program making low-cost spay/neuter vouchers available to area residents. Over the years we have grown and expanded and now house over 200 cats in our shelter. We are a cage-free and no-kill shelter. Cats lounge around as they would in a home and are treated with loving care by our outstanding staff.

Adoption Process
AFAR/NCHS has adoption counselors who can help you find the best match for your lifestyle. We have cats of all ages and temperaments. It is always best to meet your potential new family member in person. You will be asked to fill out an adoption form and agreement. If you rent, we are required to check with your landlord before adopting to you. Our goal is to have 100% happiness for both adopter and adoptee, and we will work with you to make sure you are satisfied with your new animal companion.

Please note: After submitting an adoption application, we recommend that you follow-up with the shelter to ensure they have received your adoption application from Petango. The shelter’s contact information can be found in the left hand column. Thank you.
