Pet Memo

The best thing to come out of Jersey since "Pauly D" is this boy, named... what else? but Jersey! Jersey is 4 years old and weighs 26 lbs. and spent his life on a chain. When Jersey is good, he is SO good but Jersey has been diagnosed with "rage syndrome"- which can cause a sudden change in his behavior and he has had a few "not so good" moments. He does not seem aware of these episodes after they quickly occur and disappear. Jersey has tried medication for this condition but it did not seem to help so some other regimens will be considered. Jersey is a dominant male and currently resides with a female Boxer and loves to play and snuggle with her, he has gotten much better at reading her cues but because of his condition, they are not left unattended together. He is loving towards submissive dogs but can be defensive around other dominant ones. He has exhibited some aggression when he is overwhelmed by a lot of dogs at once. Jersey is aggressive towards cats and will not be placed with one. He has enjoyed interacting with the older children he has met but because of his condition, homes with young children will not be considered. Jersey is wonderfully crate trained, he loves his crate and blankets. He is also house trained but does occasionally mark new territories but will wear a belly band if needed. Jersey did not respond well to a regular collar and leash but once his foster mom got him an "easy walk" harness, he walks nicely. Jersey came into rescue with a low+ on his heartworm test so he is currently under treatment, he also eats a grain free diet and has a few skin allergies that he takes otc medicine's for. Jersey is enjoying his new life and loves to snuggle in your lap or anyone else's, kiss, burrow, go for car rides, play with stuffies, play fetch and tug and chew on bones. He also loves to nap and get belly rubs by any willing participant! He knows how to "sit", "lay down", "come", "walk" and "go outside". He also knows "treat" and the word "no". Jersey would do great with a family that is understanding and patient with his condition and his "spazz" attacks as his foster mom calls them. It has only happened with her a few times and sometimes it starts when he startles himself- like when he is scratching himself with a back foot or he may start growling at invisible objects. This rage has never come out while Jersey is playing with another dog or a person. So, who's a fan of Jersey? Adoption fee $350. 11/21/12

Shelter Information

The Boston Terrier Rescue of North Carolina (BTRNC) is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that was founded in 2004. BTRNC primarily serves North Carolina but is active in South Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia as well. We are an organization run completely by volunteers, many of whom also juggle families, full time jobs, and other personal responsibilities. Bostons come to us from shelters and directly from owners. They enter into volunteer foster homes throughout North Carolina and live with the foster family and other pets. Each Boston receives vaccinations, micro-chipping, spaying/neutering, vet visits, and any needed medical treatment. BTRNC Mission Statement: Boston Terrier Rescue of North Carolina is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and finding new adoptive homes for Boston Terriers surrendered by private owners and obtained from shelters, humane societies, and animal welfare organizations.
