Pet Memo

Black with red undertones, long hair, male, born approx. 1/1/05, #8619

This regal-looking boy came to The Rescue House after wandering a neighborhood hoping to reconnect with his beloved guardians who left him behind when they moved.

Zachary doesn't understand why he lost his previous family, and it may take him some time to relax and develop trust with his new family. Once he feels safe and secure, Zachary adores being petted and admired. He'll strut around swaying his beautiful plumy tail in the air and then sit in the window where the sun can land on his thick fluffy fur and let the rusty-red undertones shine through. Zachary keeps himself looking good; he even washes his paws in his water bowl! Zachary may seem on his dignity at times, yet he's actually a very playful boy who will leap for wiggly toys and bat balls down the hall. Though Zachary likes company and will walk onto your lap for pets, he does have an independent streak and will also need some time to himself. He's very good about expressing his wishes, and will let you know when it's time to play, time to take a break, time to start again, and when he'd like a good snuggle... Zachary's great at leaning into your shoulder while you hold and pet him.

Zachary wants to be in a peaceful, quiet home with adults only and he would be quite happy being the only furry boy to receive all your love and attention. Zachary also gets along remarkably well with kittens who know to respect him as the boss cat (he'll groom and play with them); if adopted with a kitten or teenager they may stay good friends. He can live peaceably with an older cat when not confined to a small space, and, though not his preference, he might consider a quiet, calm dog.

Zachary has struggled to fend for himself on the street and would now like to and deserves to be spoiled in his forever home with his own special person or persons. He won't compromise, though: he insists on a relationship based on mutual admiration, respect and love.

Shelter Information

The Rescue House is a non-profit, all volunteer-based organization dedicated to assisting cats through its rescue, foster and adoption activities. We find loving homes for unwanted, abandoned, homeless and abused cats. We open our arms to socialized, people-friendly cats that need assistance, regardless of age and often regardless of handicap. We find good homes for every cat that we take in - we are a true no-kill cat rescue organization.

Since our inception in 1999, we have rescued over 8,900 cats. We find loving, permanent homes for them through our 8 adoption centers in San Diego County, located in pet stores that work with us and share our philosophy. We have wonderful cats of all colors, shapes, sizes and ages.
